"Well marked trails. Road coming in is not maintained. Large potholes. Roundabout parking area. Beautiful view of the nearby pond. Lots of plant life to enjoy. Reminence of old buildings and other stuff to find whilst hiking this trail."

"It was ok, not great. Very poorly marked trails. The trail would be easy to follow for a while and then would just disappear with no discernible markers. Thankfully I had the trail map downloaded on All Trails, I never would’ve been able to follow without the GPS. View was just ok too. Won’t be back."

"Sparta Mountain Wildlife Management Area is accesible from various trailheads/parking area, one being at the Edison Monument. This 3500-acre park is part of the larger Highlands Core Forest, which is 340 square miles of NJ's most intact, mature forest. In the vicinity of the Edison Monument--on Edison Rd-- Thomas Edison had build a massive iron ore crushing facility, where you can still see foundations and remnant structures poking out of the forest. The entrance to Edison Mine--fenced off today, is right off the main hiking trail, which takes you to Edison Bog, a natural area that hosts several species of globally imperilled rare plants. This is about as wild as NJ gets and it is pretty incredible."

"A large area, worth exploring. In Sparta, it’s best accessed from Edison Road either at Ryker Lake, or at the Edison monument site marker at the top of the mountain. The Highlands Trail goes by the east side of Ryker Lake."
